Every weekend, identifiable images of children are captured and shared online from junior sport, school events and community activities, often without the child or family having any practical way to say no. Australia has strong laws protecting children online, but very little that addresses the moment an image is first taken and posted. That is the gap My Consent, Before Content closes.

A child who does not wish to be photographed or filmed, or whose family would prefer their image is not shared online, wears a purple wristband or sweatband. It is an instantly recognisable, low-impact signal to photographers, media and other parents that consent has not been given. No confrontation, no disruption to the event, no barrier to taking part.

We believe junior sport and community life are good for children, and that legitimate event coverage matters. My Consent, Before Content does not ban photography, stop parents capturing their own children, or restrict participation. It simply gives families a voice, and helps clubs, schools and media meet their child-safeguarding responsibilities with confidence.

My Consent, Before Content has received a formal letter of support from the Queensland Family and Child Commission, and is engaging with national child safety organisations as it grows. The campaign aligns with Australia's child online safety laws and Queensland's Child Safe Organisations Act 2024.
